Kelsey L. Rushing, Esq.
Fraternal Biography
Kelsey L. Rushing is a native of Carthage, Mississippi. He is a 1999 graduate of Cumberland School of Law, at Samford University. He received his Bachelor’s Degree and Master’s Degree in Political Science from the University of Southern Mississippi.
After graduating from Cumberland, Kelsey was in private general practice where he worked in chancery court practice, personal injury, workers’ compensation, bankruptcy, and criminal defense. He was a founding partner of Smith Rushing Cotton & Robinson, PLLC. Kelsey has worked primarily in the areas of personal injury, mass tort, medical malpractice, and corporate defense. He has worked in all areas of litigation, including trial and trial preparation. He has also worked with the City of Canton City Council and Board attorney for the Canton Housing Authority. Presently, he is an attorney with the Mississippi Office of Capital Defense.
In addition to being a Life Member of Alpha, he is a member of the Mississippi Bar Association, the National Bar Association, the American Bar Association, the Magnolia Bar Association, Mississippi Association of Justice, and 100 Black Men. He coached youth football for the Canton Bengals and served as a coach for Madison Central High School’s mock trial team.
Bro. Rushing was initiated into the Mu Xi Chapter at Southern Mississippi in the Spring of 1992, and is Charter member of Rho Xi Lambda in Canton, MS. In his 25 years as an active member, Bro. Rushing has served on various District, Regional, and National committees. He has served as the legal counsel and Executive Director for the District of Mississippi and is the Ninth District Director for the State of Mississippi.
Brother Rushing is married to the former Yumeka C. Burt, Esq., and they are the proud parents of three daughters Kennedy, Sydney and Grace.
